Chapter 1+2 Notes

It's been over a year since the last major update. A lot has changed in that time, both in the game and in life. Things are better in both. I took about 8 months to forget about everything and travel around the country, only occasionally whipping out a laptop to write some thought I had on Coda after scaling a cliff side. I stopped traveling as much and began focusing on writing more in September, which coincided with me starting to attend college. Unfortunately my free time is limited, but I'm in a much clearer head space to continue working on the game. The perpetual doom and gloom the previous demos had gave way to a more optimistic and slice of life tone the new demo exudes. I had to restructure all my plans, reorder several scenes, and revise pretty much everything to match my brighter outlook on life. The new demo isn't as long as the last one, but it is much more polished and aside from some placeholder art and a few minor writing bits, it's pretty much completed. It ended up being more linear than I'd hoped after gaining experience designing open ended quests on a different project, but it's still very early in the grand scheme of things. I've found it helpful to organize the story by chapters, where a new chapter marks something that's changed in how the protagonist moves forward or how the audience should feel. "Chapter" might be a loose way of describing it however, as each chapter fills up about 100 pages worth of text. There are 2 main chapters included in this update with 3 different endings. I almost want to call them epilogues for chapter 2 but that's silly. About half of the content in this demo are scenes that have been revised from previous demos, and half of it is entirely new content. I added a system to let the player explore on their own, which ended up being quite limited in this demo because I needed to fit everything within a certain time frame in game. It will be expanded upon in the future, along with a dynamic weather system and nighttime hangouts. Future updates will cover not just the end of the autumn semester but a whole new semester after that with some drastic changes. I'm excited to show them but it will take a while to get there. An optimistic estimate would be 1 new chapter every 2-3 months with the final game having around 10 chapters. I can't really think of anything else to say that isn't said in the game already, so I hope you enjoy playing the demo and thank you for sticking with me on this journey!

PS Sorry to the 18 people who downloaded version 0.6.0 where the title screen music doesn't play. It's fixed in .0.6.1!
